Shards

The broken shards reflect my shattered dreams
The life I wanted left behind
A pile of glass at the bottom of my feet
In which I can see my eyes

The reflections of my face are broken and jagged
But if I look right I can see everything.
The sunken eyes from my painful slumber
The pale skin from my imprisonment

My spell is broken by raindrops
Which blear out my eyes and fall down my reflected face
My hopeless tears shed through another’s eyes
And right off the mirror’s shard

Left to sink through the gaps in the floor
To cause more tears to others
Creating a ripple
One tear that can affect thousands

Upon standing I can see my face
Jagged and broken
The shell of what is laughably referred to as
A man

Broken dreams
Lost love
It all crashed and shattered
Like the mirror before me

I take a step forward and feel the glass in my feet
For once a real tear falls
To sink in between gaps and cause another’s sadness
To create freedom

As I stare to the street below
The reflected memories which I’ve destroy come flowing back
I think of my dreams, my hopes
And her

I scream into the rain filled darkness from the roof
“I’m free! No, I can go back! I can live!”
I will see her again
I will love her again
We will merge our dreams together
To build the perfect home
To live within constant happiness
To be free!

I stare across the street and see a reflection staring back
Not a reflection made of shards
But a reflection of a man
A whole man

The shards are left behind
I will share the whole with everybody
Even her
I will

I will.
