sounds like penance
my mistakes pile in
Father, please forgive me
for I have sinned
sounds like penance
the boys laugh too loud
my smiles fades as I fight
through the roaring crowd
sounds like penance
the scream of my violin
it’s the only thing I can hear
there’s just no way to win
sounds like penance
your words cut so deep
I never knew the price for love
would be so very steep
sounds like penance
the squeak of red pen
correcting my poem, my life, my mistakes-
amen
