for the last time
your hair catches the sunbeams just so
dazzling my eyes gold.
i turn away in grief,
because
it’s not like i wanted this,
wanted you,
you know,
it’s just,
you know, it’s just.

it’s just.

The author's comments:
I didn't write this about a...oh, what's a good word? A boyfriend? A lover? A crush? Nothing so trivial as that last, certainly. This was a friend that I loved unconditionally - transcendentally, I think, sometimes. And one day I threatened to leave, so she left first.

She came back, but you know, it was never the same.
