My Melody
My Melody
My eyes are open
But my mind is closed
In order to keep out the intruder
I’m caged within myself.
Caressed by moths
Countless wings brush my body
Movement in the darkness—
Your breathing is keeping me alive.
Dust filters all vision
And lies are all I hear
But my heart beats in time
To the pulse it can feel
Embraced within your arms.
But I did something wrong—
Voice cracking on the high note—
And while my heart
Lies within your hands…
Mine are empty
Save for my falling tears.
I lose track of my song
Forgetting the melody
And your hands are closing—
Forming fists—
As I lie here
Struggling to breathe.
My life is littered
On the floor of my cage—
Feathers
Lie with moth wings
And dust covers everything
With a blanket of silence.
I was your darling—
An innocent little canary…
My feathers lost
Their golden hue
And I dyed them black
With my love for you.
… my song
Is no longer heard
As you wipe your hands
Of this mess that is me.
The bars of my cage
Are pressing closer—
But I’ve forgotten how to fight
For my song
Is all I lived for…
And you laughed
At my melody.
