Teddy Heard Them Say
Teddy heard them say “four closer”.
I am excited—my birthday is soon!
I come home from pre-school and see new boxes everyday.
They are very big—as tall as buildings!
Are these all my presents?
It’s very exciting, this “four-closer”.
Mommy picks me up from school today,
She says it’s the day of the “four-closer”.
I don’t understand why she’s so sad;
It’s my birthday!
There are boxes in a truck—all my toys?
I run into the house…
It is empty.
I am confused, so I ask Mommy where all our things are.
She starts to cry.
Baby, she says, we don’t live here anymore.
Then where do we live, I ask.
She says she doesn’t know,
And I don’t like this “four-closer” anymore.
Why can’t I stay three forever?
