No Going Back
When I saw you there, your eyes spoke to me.
My palms started sweating, my heart started
racing like a horse moving for the lead.
You gave me a smile, and a flame was sparked.
We spoke each day. We spoke of the present
and the future but rarely of the past.
This wasn’t a bad thing. It merely meant
we knew what was there and it didn’t last.
Life kept moving forward and you tried to
follow. I encouraged you but you quit.
Why did it go wrong? Was it me or you?
All I know is you’re going to be missed.
But I can’t wait for you to catch up with me.
I won’t live in the past, and drown in memory.
