Gray splashes dot the horizon
Drops of black on the canvas of sky
Shapeless, hungry, and coming
Drawing nearer with every second
Eating up the dome of blue
Encroaching on all corners
They are gathering

Shadows grow deeper
Then vanish with the sky
The sun’s rays are smothered
Light slowly drains away
Over us, the dark ones loom
Shadows, suspended in the air
With a deafening crack they shatter

For days they reign severely
Under the frigid shroud of dark
We tremble, anticipating the end

White veins traverse the sky
Ripples liquefy the stagnant air
Water cascades from bursting clouds
First like molasses in the summer
Then in sheets and blankets
Torrents descend towards earth
As floods grasp the sunken land

The inundated earth gasps for breath
Sunlight pierces the murky skies
Slits in the clouds widen to fissures
Sunlight permeates the clearing air
Rainbows sprawl across the sky
Welcome signs after the storm
All is clear in the heavens…

But off in the distance
Gray splashes dot the horizon
Drops of black on the canvas of sky
