Flashback

In a dream where touch is magnified
And stone returned to sand
By the burning tide
She wills her shack door open
And invites the heat inside

Wet tongues of flame lick clammy flesh
Lap at her wounds, taste
Raw heart through bare chest
They try to burn her shanty down
To take tidemarks made by past crest

But in the blur caused by the fire
The smoke makes shapes
That swamps inspire
And as the muck leeches the heat
The nightmare chills her warm desire

A cold wind pushes the sea away
From where it’s no longer
Fit to stay
The water recedes for a second or two
Then rises and covers the entire bay

And as the throes crash to the shore
She floats out to see
On the old shack door
The caress of a breeze rouses her from her sleep
She dives into the tide to swim ever down deep
And as the door drifts away
She never wanted to keep
She can't think of a place she could ever love more
