Black petals in the light of dusk
Leaves swinging to the music of the night
Center emits a pleasant faint musk
Membranes reflecting a soft light

Soft petals supported by a crisp stalk
Water flowing through the flower
Thorns sharper than the talons of a hawk
Gaining moisture from a morning shower

Jack Frost leaves finger prints on its leaves
And the black silky petals are covered in a silver frost
Until the snow upon it heaves
When the beauty is until next year is lost

Time takes away the pretty flower
Until it next wants to unleash its beautiful power

The author's comments:
Flowers have been the inspiration to my life. Their beauty is always new and full of life. They are wonderful pinpricks of joy in the world, lighting up any day.
