I remember when I first saw you
When the weather was hot and the big tree
Was thick with green leaves.
And I remember wondering who you were
But never having the courage to ask.

I remember when I first spoke to you
And feeling too scared to be myself
In case you didn’t like me.
And I remember laughing at your stupid jokes
And wondering if you found mine funny as well.

I remember when I first touched you
When you told me you had to go, and hugged me
But you were only joking.
And I remember asking myself why you did it
And hoped it was because you wanted to touch me too.

I remember when I first kissed you
And it was so cold and the lights were off
And the door was shut.
And I remember wishing it could last forever
Then kicking myself after for pulling away.

I don’t remember when I fell in love with you
Although it was sometime along the way
When the weather was cold and there was snow.
And I don’t remember feeling like this before
Nor do I think I will again.

Now the weather is getting hot once more
And the big tree is crammed with hot pink blossom
Coating the lawn.
But I can’t get away from the pain of knowing
We won’t ever kiss, hug, or laugh together again.
