Light Post

As still as a statue.
Permanently in its place among the empty spaces.
It is there always observing everything.
It is there as a child grows
young
to
old,
even as a senior drives out of the high school parking lot
for the
last
time.
A light post is there
as a storm arrives,
then
blows over.
A light post is there
to witness
high school love
developing.
And,
a light post is there
to give us light.
A light of guidance
for when WE
are in a dark parking lot
all alone.
