once upon a time
and a sad sad time it was
the crown shone through the leaves
and out of the bushes strolled
the skeleton queen
her cavernous ribcage
creaking ever closer her spindly arms

bent to place spider fingers around her
sunken waist
and in her aura of disgusted horror
out of the shrub shot a voice
to pronounce to the earth
and mostly just to me

run away or she'll catch you
and you'll never get it back

but the beauty of her golden crown
balances her apalling frame and so
i give in and so
i'm heir to the throne.
