What will I remember when I am away?
Maybe the sounds of the dog barking at 4 AM
Or the purr of the engine as my dad restores his old Chevy truck
The slam of the back door as Patrick runs to meet his friends
Quiet breakfast with an “I love you. Be safe.”
Coming home to burgers in flames on the grill
Sitting on the swing between my parents
For now I’ll have to soak it all in
It won’t be long until I’ll be able to answer the question
