Mind goes blank, only actions persist
The turmoils of the world do not penetrate
The thick collective blue
Only sounds of a watery wind ring in my head

With peace as my companion, yet exhilarated in an adrenaline overwhelm,
I push harder, farther, faster
Everything aches, everything races,

Suffocating, I breathe in fuel for my body
Lungs filled, satisfied from starving, I am energized further
I feel isolation, I feel tranquility, I feel freedom
Now I’m alive

The author's comments:
This poem tries quite desperately to capture the multitude of feelings experienced while doing a sport that one loves. In this specific case, the sport is swimming. However, caging the emotions of a complex experience is as difficult as compressing the sun in the palms of one's hands. With that being said, this poem does not do justice to the emotions and sensations I feel when swimming, but is merely an attempt to capture another feeling, I am endlessly chasing.

While I was reading this poem, I really felt that it was about Jordan's experience with swimming. I was happy to read the author's comments about the poem, as the imagery that came to me was what he described in his comments.

As usual, each poem I read from Jordan is brilliant and I am honored to know such a talented young man.
