A Lesson in Karma
I’ve stepped in some bubble gum
that someone carelessly spit
on the sidewalk
probably walking home from school
probably thinking about no one
but themselves.
I’ve stepped in some bubble gum
that is probably still fresh
on the sidewalk
probably still has flavor
probably saturated in the DNA
of the guilty vandal.
I’ve stepped in some bubble gum
and now its all over my new shoes
which isn’t fair because
I stepped in mud today as well
when I was walking to lunch
and got so mad that I spit my gum on the ground.
