That Day

April 21, 2009

I remember that day:
I was young,
Scared,
Confused,
Curious.

I remember the news:
There were fires,
Cries of agony and
Scared faces.

I remember my parents’ faces:
They were filled with
Sorrow
Worry
Anger
Fear

I remember my thoughts:
I was
Curios
Confused
Scared
Angry
Sad

Except my emotions
Were not for the same
Reason as my parents.
Mine were for being
Taken out of class so
Urgently and why
Everything seemed to
Be so wrong. Why no
One was the same. My
Parents had these emotions
For a horrible catastrophe.

I remember that day:
I was in 1st grade.
It was September 11 2001.

I was also in first grade. I remember coming home and watching people sifting through the debris on the news. I remember seeing a Raggedy Ann doll and wondering if the person who lost it was buried under everything. your poem summarizes the emotion nicely

I was in first grade too. I wasn't aware of the magnitude for at least a week, but I felt the effects the next day immediately. There was a lot of tenisty, edginess, and hyper-sensitivity the next day in school. All the kids in my class were acting really weird. Fortunately it was all for nothing (and was just shock reaction,) because It hasn't happened again. Hopefully America will not forget 9/11, but still move past it and move on. Because if we are paralyzed by fear, those who committed the acts do double damage.
