The Meaning of a Passing Glance

He passed me by
We stared right at each other
Normally we would smile
Or wave
Or look away in a flirtatious way
But nothing
No emotion
I hugged my books to my chest instinctively
He sped up to get to her faster
To replace my image with hers
Like I'm unclean
Leporasy
I moved my sad eyes to the ground
Counting the steps
Conscious of every breath
Until he was gone
Relief and regret
Weak wanting to be strong
Stuck here wanting to move on.
