Getting into Trouble
The fantastic 3; my parents and I
Were in Port Huron
With our 30’ fifth wheel camper
During the hot and humid month of July.
Sam, my best friend and long lost sister,
Was there but that was
Nothing unexpected since she fit
Into our family like the long lost
Winnie the Pooh puzzle piece.
We Sat cramped around the small
Table that took up the majority
Of the camper.
All of us getting into trouble.
We were hot and sweat caressed the back
Of our necks and legs and we stuck uncomfortably
To anything we touched.
The whole campground able to hear
The sounds of joy and frustration
Through the thin metal walls
That surrounded us.
All of us getting into trouble.
The constant pop of the dice inside it’s
Concealed plastic dome was simply the background noise.
We took turns moving around the hexagon shaped board
With our colorful pieces; yellow, red, blue,
And green.
Aggression and rage filled
Our voices when someone landed
On top of our piece and we were
Thrown violently back to our home row.
The game lasted for hours
And we stayed up late in the night,
Later than the dark shadows caress the street.
We fought for victory
Under the orange glow of a full moon.
All of us getting into trouble.
