That Knife
Much too easy to be real,
It's too good to be true
This complacence that I feel
about what we've been through.
No more burdened by your pain,
it seemed a weight had been lifted,
but the truth is much too plain
that it's only been shifted.
This stress is crushing you.
What can I do to relieve it?
There's naught I wouldn't do
to allay or receive it.
I would gladly bear your pain
for the rest of my life
if you would just abstain
from the use of that knife...
