FLOWER?

A rose in the valley.

No, that's not it.
Something pretty
That smells good,
But nothing like a rose.
And valleys can be swampy.
Valleys are out.
Maybe a daffodil.
But that reminds me
Too much of the duck.
So daffodils are out.
How about a tulip?
But a deer ate all of ours.
Pansies? No,
They're wimps. They're out.
Carnations, maybe.
But they're too cheap.
Orchids? But I heard
Some orchids eat bugs.
So orchids go bye-bye.
Freesia? But no,
I saw those
On a bottle of lotion.
No thanks.
So I guess I'm back to roses
In the valley.
What a snore.
A flower poem
How girly.

A rose in the valley.
It's pink and pretty.
And all through the valley
Are pretty pink roses.

This poem lacks something
But I don't know what.
Rhyme is cheesy, so that's out.
Structure? But that takes too much time.
I just want to write this poem
And finish with it already.
So here goes again.
And don't let me tell you
It's not finished yet.
Don't tell me
That's just a first draft.
Because if I look at that
Girly flower poem again
I think I'm going to puke.
So here goes.

A rose in the valley.
Darkness spurs once again
Upon the deep pit of green.
But I can see only
The white of the rose
Shining brightly
Against the darkness.
Not frightened, not scared.
Only there to be proud
Of it's white color.
Some others are pink,
Some others are red,
But my rose, my rose,
Is bright, beautiful, innocent.

Well, that's the end of it.
I guess it just came to me.
I don't want to rhyme, no.
Like I said, rhyme is cheesy.
And I don't want to structure, either.
That takes too much time.
What? Check for structure?
Why would I do that
When I know there's none in there.
But ok, whatever you say.
6, 6, 7, 6, 5, 4, 5, 5, 6, 5, 5, 5, 5, 8
There's the syllables.
But blame yourself.
You're the one who asked.
There is structure?
But how? All it is
Is syllables.
S-y-l-l-a-b-l-e-s.
What? A lot of 5's
In my poem?
I guess that matters
If you're seriously bored
And looking for something special about it.
It's just a random poem
Made in this random class
For my random teacher
Who thinks 5's are special.
Probably because she's 500.
