A Silent Goodbye to a Friend
Birds chirp
 children laugh
 the sun shines
 a ship sails
 together we are on board
 (just don’t sink my battleship)
 the car doors slam
 tears fall miles
 to the hot pavement below
(the pavement to carry you away)
 turn the corner
 a sinking ship
 sunlight hidden behind clouds
the wailing of babies fills the air
 the birds fall silent
 the silence hurts
(almost as much as your leaving)
