As I stand, hands clenched to my heart,
I watch as people come and depart.
Friends, family, strangers too,
Aged one-hundred down to two.
A memory or feeling they leave in my mind,
Whether pleasant or not, uncouth or kind,
They show me a road so easy to forget,
In our world of mayhem, loss, and regret.

These people we meet, the lives we change,
Tell us to do what might seem strange:
Make an impression, the best you can muster,
For some hearts are broken and lacking their luster.
Remember this when you see a face,
Belonging to any age or race.

What you think, do or say,
Could change the world in a year or a day.
So as I stand, hands clenched to my heart,
I think of our world with a brand-new start,
For wherever you look, there is light in the dark.
Now it’s time for you to make your mark.
