Proactiveness is an admirable trait, especially when many people resort to reactiveness in the face of difficulty.

Immersed in a society striving for social change, I have seen the importance of raising my voice in this ever-changing world. A few months ago, the events at Mizzou and Yale brought up a concept that has been long disregarded since the American Civil War: racial inequality.

It is incredible to watch college students taking a stance against this prevalent issue, addressing that the past IS in the present--we cannot shy away from that.

Some may ask, “Why now? Why have we waited until now to address racial inequality?”
To be fair, anytime is better than never. After subsequent murders of African Americans, these students showed that they had had enough.

Hopefully, we can all learn from the students at Mizzou and Yale and take a stance against injustice. After all, if we aren’t part of the solution, we are certainly part of the problem.
