Respect?

"Who do you respect more? Meryl Streep or Paris Hilton?" My teacher asks me.

I quickly answer Meryl Streep without thinking, simply because I like her work more than Paris'.

However, the sudden answer I gave is not what I meant to say. I respect them both equally. I respect anyone who can make a living for themsleves doing what they love. I may like one more than the other, but affection shouldn't play a part in respect. I wish I could go back and recall what I misspoke. I would say that anyone who can find a way to do what they love deserves my respect because in some ways, I want to be like them. I want to wake up every morning and do what I love. Anyone who can say that they have accomplished that deserves my respect.

what are you talking about? paris hilton has never worked to get where she is. everything in her life has been handed to her on a silver platter. add all of her jail times and other mishaps onto that, and that woman does not deserve respect.

Yeah, but Paris Hilton has done nothing. She lives off her grandfather's money. She may attempt to make a living by selling perfume and cd's (which are now in the Dollar tree btw), but she's never been able to. And even though she bombed that, she never has to struggle because she has money (which is not her own) to fall back. In my opinion, an celebrity who deserves respect is someone who works to get where they are, works to stay where they are and works to stay out of trouble, not someone who slides through life without a clue. Sorry, but I completely disagree.
