If you have nothing nice to say...

What is the real reason for spreading gossip? It doesn’t actually bring joy to those who spread it–it certainly bring sadness to those who are the topic of it. I understand that gossiping is fun in small doses–as a matter of fact, it is common conversation at most sleepovers. However, gossiping is similar to eating too much candy: it tastes good while you take it all in, but in the end you are left feeling sick to your stomach. I propose this question: why not spread kindness? Rarely does one find themself speaking about the goodness in others. The next time you are gossiping, I suggest taking a step back, and add something positive to the conversation, rather than negative. Gossip ultimately brings woe, while kindness brings happiness.
