The written piece “River of Woe,” by Nicole Lee-Oesterreeich, was well written and struck me deeply about losing innocence. I was greatly shocked by how someone had taken his own life at Niagara Falls, which is beautiful and publicized. And, after that, the narrator, who is the author herself, learns that many people suicide there every year. At that moment, she had lost her innocence, but she also matured from the incident.

I still can’t understand and grasp the idea of why a person, who was loved by others, would want to take his or own life. It only causes more pain for everyone. Family members, friends, and even eye-witnesses must admit what happened. Curious people will ask what occurred, family members must plan the funeral, and others will mourn the loss of this person they had known and cared about. I believe that no one should have to bear this pain, but hoping will not help, for incidents always occur.
