Boundaries, What Boundaries?

The materialistic message conveyed by pop music has become a socially accepted part of our society. Not surprisingly, artists feel the same repercussions. In the song “Calling All Angels,” the band Train sings “All of these lines are being crossed over the atmosphere” expressing their anguish at the world’s current state of confusion and the boundaries that are being undeniably crossed. The pop music is a function of pop culture, and will continue to follow the patterns that pop culture calls socially acceptable. Right now, 21st century pop culture has come to sanction a limited understanding and experience of life through a prevalent, unsophisticated manner which accentuates the trite and superficial as well as the fickle and disposable. I hesitate to ask: Where do we go from here?
