The big pitch

November 21, 2008
By Anonymous

With two outs and two strikes
A man on second and third
The batters eyes glued to the ball
With tons of pressure
Gets his feet in the batters box
Takes some practice swings
Then bangs his bat against the plate
Looks at the outfield

Lifts the bat
Adjusts his helmet
Gets a good grip
Stands,
Waits,
Focuses,
Then brings the bat back
About to swing
The batter swings
Straight and level
Watches,
Hopes,
Preys,
Hesitates,
Wishes,
Leans,
Breaths out deep
Hoping he’ll hit the ball
And then

And then

And then

Crack
The game ends in a win

I've been in that situation so many times before and your poem expresses just how it really feels.
