Summary of the selection

The first day of school can be terrifying for freshman. For Mary, things got better as soon as she came in the first day. She decided to try out for cross-country, and found herself as the only girl on the team. She ran with seniors and juniors, who were very nice to her from the beginning. She came to the conclusion that people make too big of a deal about freshman being treated badly, and that its all just hysteria.

Reaction:

I can relate to this selection a lot. I was very nervous and a little scared my first day freshman year too. I see the same dilemma at Ayersville almost every new school year. The incoming freshman are excited, but also scared to start their high school journey. They soon find out that high school life isn’t as bad as what they heard it was going to be. Seniors are picking on them and making their life difficult like they were once told.
