Out of My League

"What?" "Are you serious?" "Why?" "Ick!" My new girlfriend struggles to get used to the idea of my liking her. "What could you like about me?" She spits out the first person pronoun like it left a bad taste in her mouth, as if she hated herself so much she couldn't bear to portray vanity. "Because," I protest, "you're funny. And so cool. And really really cute." My underwhelming words can't even start to communicate the adoration I feel for her. Even though she somehow sees it the other way around, she is very much out of my league.
