The Sidekick, steamy small trees
Try to rub up next to the potatoes, begging for attention
Then shoved to the empty side of the plate
The underachiever, unwillingly discounted
The outcast, ousted by society
Never appreciated for the nutrients
within you
Stand tall, full of vitamin C
But you are always left in the sink
Like a dog eager to please, left abandoned
But when you are pierced by that glimpse of silver
The happiness, the joy
Can be felt in a single bite
The juices of your troubles fade as you bathe in saliva
All these feelings
being left behind as you
make your descent.

This is a piece about the lack of acknowledgement broccoli gets even though it is amazing.
