The author of “My Friend Merv”, Amanda Lund, is about her dad’s truck named Merv.. She was excited when she finally received her license. Amanda went from driving her mom’s 2000 Subaru Outback to Merv, a 1994 Chevy Blazer that was beaten to the rough point. She tells little anecdotes of Merv and how Merv was always on the edge of killing her. Merv made her get into several minor accidents, which caused Amanda to feel untrustworthy of him. However, when she had an accident of some sort, there seemed to be no damage to the truck and that was probably because it was already beaten so hard, there was no way of telling if anything new was wrong with it. In the end, Merv became her best friend by not letting anyone know about her backing into her friend’s basketball pole. It is a bit of an oxymoron; Merv was a junk best friend.
