"What's wrong?" I whispered. He shook his head, his arms and face buried in the steering wheel. I told him to get into the backseat. The rain beat hard on his back and when I opened the door, he was soaked. I pulled him into the plush leather of the sedan and held him against me. He cried and i just continued to hold him close.
"I can't go back," he whispered, his voice broken by tears. "I can't."
"Shh," I said, wrapping my arms around his shoulders tighter. "I'm here."
And for a moment, I had someone who needed me.
And in that moment, I realized just how much I needed him too.
