Other Half

A plain, late evening, I sat waiting on my living room floor. My Dad was on our green frumpy couch while my brothers huddled around me, playing and talking. My curly hair was down and crazy. I was still in diapers, and wearing my cute pink onesie. Which reminds me… That may have been a little too small! The day was almost over, and I had nothing left to expect from it.

Mom usually works on the weekdays, so I was anxiously waiting for her to finally come home. Soon enough, after all this vigorous waiting, I spot my Mom passing through the three aligned windows. The screen door opens, but its not just Mom. It’s a puppy!

Feelings of being surprised and happiness beyond compare ran through my body. Everyone flooded around to see the new member of the family, first shouting, “What’s his name?” “Mickey.” My Mom answered as if she were proud.

Mickey is a black and white Border collie mix. He has a happy, bushy tail with a white tip. I couldn’t believe what had happened, yet alone my mom brought home a dog. This wasn’t expected from her at all.

I started bonding with this furry bundle of joy, and let it lick my chin, struggling to reach it. I laughed, feeling a sort of completeness. I had found my other half and I didn’t even realize it. Even until this day I still have Mickey. Looking better than ever! Each day brings a stronger relationship. I am so grateful to have Mickey apart of so many great memories. He will always carry an important space in my heart; I love Mickey with all I’ve got.

I love my dog. Try not to take things for granted, because they might not always be there.
