Silence

The leaves float to the ground, leaving the tree branches naked and twisted. Crisp, cool air blows and all is silent but the sound of a freight train in the distance. The sun is bright and is sinking behind the trees, casting daunting shadows on the ground. A sense of calm lingers in the air and it makes me uneasy. I await the chaos that is always looming somewhere nearby in the distance. The silence begins to scream the secrets I've kept hidden for so long. With each gust of wind, another one of my fears comes to life. I can't take being alone with the silence. I can't face my past of the things I've done. The silence is suffocating.
