The name Anthony means a lot of things to a lot of people. In the English language my name translates to priceless or highly praiseworthy. However, to my family it normally means the “Washer of Dishes” typically followed by “Get over her and do *insert something that has to be done*”. To everyone else it seems my name is like butter to them; soft, basic, and easy to work with.

If I’m going to be completely honest, I never really liked the name Anthony. It felt like trying to fit a magnificent roaring lion into the limiting dimensions of a cardboard box, to simple a word to describe my complex and confounding personality. Eventually I realized that thinking in this fashion was allowing my name to own me, to become me, and I didn’t want that at all.

To me my name means nothing yet everything at once because my name is me. It sums up my flair for the dramatic and my sarcastic tendencies together perfectly. To me Anthony means Anthony, and that’s all there is to it.
