The Last Night Of Summer MAG

By Anonymous

   all of my past lives

are not your acquaintances

and none of my past lovers

were friends of yours

my resentment comes from no place at all

but your refusal to let it die comes from a mystery

this thing that was once a friendship yes this thing that once was

once was a friendship

and twice was long gone

I do not know how much more I can take

the last thing in summer

the first thing at night

what worries you most,

created this day

created for you

there is nothing left of me to give

our time has been over

and over warped out of our time

the last thing in summer

the first thing at night

this friendly existence

fickle in survival

kindred in death

the last thing on my mind

was seeing you again

the last thing I wanted

the last thing I tried

guilty in your mind

free in my own

this little battle

leaves scars of its own

one day it's over

the next day

it's gone

and finally wondered

the end of it all

the last thing in winter

the first thing in spring

seeing you again

what a horrible blemish

on a sweet smelling rose

my guilt and yours

inevitable

I suppose -
