Because I Love You This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

As I walk up the stairs to go to our room
I see the light coming from under the door
And I know you are there
I open the door
And see you lying on your bed
Talking on the phone as usual
And right then and there
I know that I love you

You give me that funny face
And I can't help but laugh
For I know you will always be there
To brighten my day

I interrupt your precious phone call
And you yell and scream
As loud as you can
But you never stay mad
Because I know you love me too

When I walk up those stairs
I don't see the light
Underneath the door
I know you are out
At a party
A restaurant
Or a friend's house
I become lonely and sad
I miss you
I worry

You come in late at night
And tell me wonderful stories
Of your grand adventures
You don't come in at all

I wonder why you are always out
Having fun
Living life to the fullest
But are you?
You do things I would never do
And I don't envy you
I worry

Because one day, if I am here and you are not
I don't think I could take it
I know I am like a mother to you
Pestering you
Yelling at you
Screaming at you
But I want you to know
It is only because I love you
Sisters should always love each other

And I hope
That you worry as I worry
And I hope
That you will always be here

Don't ever leave me

I only wish this because I love you

I love this poem. This poem actually shows how much you love your sister, and how close family should be with each other. I could relate to you because I had an older sister myself, and she died. When you said, "Don't ever leave me," it touched me in a way knowing that my sister had to leave me. Eventually I knew life had to go on regardless. On December 12, it will make three years since my sister's death. I just want you to know that you should continue to cherish those moments with your siste... (more »)
