The Time Before the Show This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

Remember this:
The whirling thoughts in that storm,
the sweat in the palm and acrossmy brow
small crystals of ice growing on my spine,
calling for the body tomimic cold's stillness.

Darkened figures restless
as prey - sensingeyes glaring through the jungle's brush
the hard breath of some forming mistinside our cage
others pacing talking to no one
The terror of what iscoming,
The hope that it will pass and not stumble on theway.

Remember the focus trying to take hold:
the slow extinction ofwho I am
the resurrection of one inside me
one I never met taking my willand controlling my body

It is time now
the red veil is breaking endingits protection
we are alone now
to brave the horde of staringeyes

Remember this:
how I fear and how I love this
the time beforethe show.
