Leeches in Society

June 23, 2008
By Anonymous

I am swimming in a tranquil blue lake.
Until the leeches come and suck my soul.
They grab tight hold of me and then they take.
Sucking my dignity leaving a hole.

They try to slurp up my soul through straws,
And take my courage and confidence away.
They never followed any of the laws.
Once they are done, they leave me tired and gray.

I tried to pull the leaches off of me.
And have complained about bullies for years,
The adults do not hear my desperate pleas.
My complaints only fall upon deaf ears.

Being a victim of harassment sucks.
When it comes to bullies you’re out of luck.

I thought that the poem expressed a lot of feelings by the writer. The comparisons with the leeches was very telling. The words flowed so well that it was easy to read even out loud. I would love to hear more.
