Three can keep a secret if two of them are dead.

There are so many things in our life that influence our decisions, actions and the way of thinking. Our number one influence is our parents and this is well reflected in the choosing of our careers. Half of the teens, in India, have chosen those fields in which they are clearly not interested. Parents believe that only science has a future and other fields are worthless. This misconception has caused a lot of problems. Either the students quit living life or they are dissatisfied with their life. Either ways, they are unhappy, discontented and depressed.

I agree that parents are to be blamed for not giving their kids the sole right to choose their future paths but does this mean that teens themselves are nowhere at fault? Obviously not.

After reluctantly choosing a field, most of the students stop working. They don't even bother to try. They waste the two crucial years of their life doing nothing. The main reason behind this is, not understanding the importance of time. Someone who knows how valuable time is would never think of wasting a single minute. One Direction's heartthrob, Zayn Malik had once said--“Time is the most precious gift you can give someone because it's a portion of your life you will never get back.”

Every subject provides a wealth of knowledge--this is something that a student forgets. So, instead of wasting those two years, if one will work on the subject he has chosen, he will find that even that subject is interesting.

Also, the folly of a student lies in his approach of working. He thinks that if he has chosen a particular subject, say Science, he has to curtail his other dreams, which are not in any form or shape, related to Science and due to this mentality, he suffers later in life and blames his parents for not letting him choose the road he wanted to.

He does not realise that it was he, himself, who decided to give up on his dreams and not his parents. Clinging onto one's dream no matter what, is important.

History offers many such great examples of determination, willpower and following one's dreams. One of them is Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727). He developed the whole 19th century Classical Mechanics commonly known as Newtonian Mechanics just in search of the answer to his question--"If an apple falls on the earth, why does the moon not follow the same process?" It took him 18 years to answer that question and in this period of time he formed the base of Physics (Classical Mechanics). All of it was possible just because of his strong willpower and determination.

Chetan Bhagat (1974-present), the biggest selling English language novelist in India's history, was an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. He quit his investment banking career in 2009 and has shifted to full time writing. He was named as one of the 'Hundred Most Influential People' in the world by the Time magazine.

Yet another example is of America's best loved author, Amy Tan (1952-present). She is best known for her book 'The Joy Luck Club'. Her business partner had once told her that writing was her weakest point. But, she never gave hope and took as many assignments as possible working 90 hours a week as a freelance technical writer just to prove herself and fulfill her dreams.

So, if they can why can't we? Just like a locksmith never manufactures a lock without a key, God never creates problems without solutions. Remember, life will never give us a free will. It's all about finding one's way in the limitations. After all, life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain...
