With the coming of age, one comes to realize that the mental side of things is just as important as the physical side of things. Often it happens to be that if you think you can accomplish something, you are more likely to accomplish it than if you don’t think you can. But before delving deeper, what exactly is accomplishment; what is success? Everyone has their own definition, but most people would probably say something along the lines of being able to become the best person that you can be.

It is natural for all people to wonder, what does it take in life to become successful? And many people will reply that working hard, talent and a bit of luck will take you to the pursuit of happiness. But that is not completely true, because many people do not realize that many times, if one does not maintain a winning mentality, they cannot become their best.

A winning mentality consists of perseverance, grit and optimism. Because in life, one will face many obstacles that are inevitable to avoid, and sometimes, despite how hard one works, or how much talent they have, they can’t achieve what they want unless they jump over that hurdle. And in order to jump over the obstacles, it takes the right mindset.

First of all, one must always have optimism, they must believe in themselves; have enough self-esteem to go pursue their dreams. When one is in a rut, finding optimism is particularly hard, but it is the most important step. You must think you can before you actually can.

Next, it takes the right attitude to become successful, because most of the good things in life don’t come easy. There will be times where you want to quit, or you feel like giving up, but perseverance is what makes the best truly the best. The best example of this comes from athletes. After a what is not ideal performance, athletes must continue and see the good side of their performance.

Finally, it takes grit, because often times, these obstacles will show one’s true inner character; who they are on the inside. It takes a lot of soul searching and strength to be able to come through and see the light of day, but in the end, it’s what makes certain people so strong on the inside, it’s what separates some from the rest of the pack.
In conclusion, if one adopts a winning mentality, they will become more likely to accomplish their goals, and in the process, they will learn more about who they truly are on the inside.
