Blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly. All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise.

My eyes are broken, I cannot see
It’s not a defect, that’s just me
I hear the words black and white
They seem to always start a fight
I’ve always lived deep in the South
I hear these words fly from a mouth
Everywhere I turn, I hear the talk
There seems to be a line when I walk
It separates my friends into two sides
But to them both teams can I confide
I have a problem, my mind is torn
I don’t know what team I’m playing for
Looks aren’t everything, or so I hear
But without sight the colors disappear
There’s a personality beneath the skin
All I can see is the heart that’s within
It’s the differences that I cannot see
They split my friends away from me
I do not know the white from black,
It’s not a brain, it’s sight I lack
Shouldn’t opinions go deeper than eyes?
Racism will cause our world’s demise.
