Do you like being yourself? Are you feeling like your school is trying to keep you from expressing yourself? Are you sick of it? I know I am! County Schools should allow students to wear facial piercings during school hours!

People think facial piercings would be a big distraction, but they are only thinking if a few students do it. That could be the case, but students everywhere see celebrities with facial piercings, crazy hair styles, and clothing styles on T.V., in magazines, and on the net. School boards are afraid that students would get distracted and not do their work, but the students are used to it already.

Some parents won't allow their kids to get facial piercings because of the school rules, but shouldn't facial piercings be decided by the parents, not the school? Facial piercings are a way to show self-expression, which is protected by the first amendment to the Constitution. Students rebel more because they don't feel like they can't express themselves. If they could wear their piercings, they would be less likely to cut class or even skip school because they feel a little more free. We are supposed to be a free country, aren't we? It's time we act like it! I mean, how free can we really be if we can't fully express ourselves? Not very free.

County Schools want their students to feel safe, right? There are still tons of student with low self-esteem, students that are just looking fro ways to branch out. If they had facial piercings, their confidence might rise if they could wear them. Statistics show that when students feel more confident about themselves, they think of themselves in a more positive way. Which also means that students would be less likely to commit suicide or do drugs because they feel better bout who they are as an individual. This would also result in less people being bullied because that student would feel confident enough to stand up for themselves.

In conclusion, take it from a student, I understand what it's like to feel like I can't express myself. I know how it is. Facial piercings aren't a distraction. They are a way to show confidence, self-expression, and a hint of the students style.

That's awesome! A lot of my friends did their editorials over this same subject, or something about the dress code. It's a much needed article! Good luck!
