It's Friday night as we sit on thesofa
flippin' channels
Look at you, next to me, layin'casually
Clad in yo' pajama flannels
I know what you thinkin' -you wanna go out this fine weekend eve
But it's beyond ourpowers
'Cause we "can't," or could it be that we"won't"?
Naw, it's 'cause of the fears
Thinkin' to myself,But are they really ours?
Dismiss that bull as I focus my attentionon you again,
Recognizin' the strength under yo' cocoa skin
Islarger than that of most women and men;
But then again, we stillstayin' in
You gotta learn to use that strength insituations

I contemplate life and love as I gaze into you
wecould hide for all our lives
Behind this apartment door ...
Butthen what would life and love be for?
If we couldn't exercise ourrights to have 'em
I know they all stare, I can feel it
Searchin'desperately into us to see what's wrong wit' us, dammit
Sayin' wedon't mix, like we from another planet
We don't plan it, but what canwe do?
Ain't a damn thing, that's true
They jus' gotta accept it
The answer I been lookin' for, I think I found it
It's theirpro'lem
Let them call 'em
Their own shots

Came to aconclusion
It's my own judgment I'm usin'
On this one ...
Icatch yo' glance as my lips part
"Baby, get dressed up, we goin'out tonight."
Is all I need to say ...
Soul mate, you been hearin'my thoughts
'Cause I can see it in yo' eyes,
You wanna go out, without a fight
No flight this time, let 'em stare
At beautifulblack and white, the perfect pair

An African Queen and a EuropeanKing
Baby, this our thing ...
As I push open the door that hasbeen holdin' us back
For so long
We cast away ourinhibitions
Enlistin' our own positions
On others' opinions andprohibitions
Of our relationship
In that we don't give as***;
Gettin' ready for the rest of our lives
As we leave theprison we called "home"
Guarded by our own fears,
of bein'judged
You readin' my mind
As your Ebony fingers intertwine
With the Ivory of mine.
