I found Brandon's article "Broken Words" extremely moving. His mother’s job requires her to speak and learn English, and Brandon’s “heart cries in agony for her.” Brandon describes how he teaches his mother how to pronounce words. He fears “the linguistic discrimination she experiences.” My mom does not know how to speak English, so I feel the same fear as Brandon does. It is scary to imagine your own parent being discriminated because of the way they speak. If there was a way that allows people to learn a language, I would show my mom.
