Samantha Andison’s “Home” had a startling sense of reality for a fictional piece that I thought was extremely well written. The descriptive writing she used in combination with the protagonist’s realistic thoughts made the piece very interesting to read. I especially liked the transition from the protagonist’s thoughts to her flashback to her experience at camp. The shift from one scene to another was seamless and flowed very well. My personal favorite part of the story was the end, where the protagonist goes to her father’s funeral against her mother’s orders. The line, “Gone home. Don’t wait up.” felt extremely impactful, giving the entire piece a polished feeling. Overall, it was very well written and I would love to read more of Samantha’s work!
