"A Life-Changing Diagnosis" is a bittersweet piece by Elizabeth Buchanan. She writes about a rare genetic disorder, called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, that took a long time for doctors to diagnose because her symptoms were seemingly unrelated. She went to many doctors, all of which said she was crazy and that it was a mental problem. But Buchanan knew she was not crazy and the disorder was indeed physical. Thankfully, one doctor knew exactly what was wrong, all from a look at her arm.
This piece stood out to me because when I was younger, I was always interested in medical mysteries. They always intrigued me. I still watch medical shows, just not mysteries as much. This piece brought me back to my childhood and I appreciate Elizabeth for sharing her story.
