In "Five Blank Applications," Stephanie DiGirolamo expresses her current problem of choosing a college. She is unsure over which college she wants to attend, indecisive whether how much she wants to take her father's lung cancer into consideration. Ever since she stepped foot into high school, her decision had always been to attend Moody Bible Institute, until she was informed of how it wouldn't be a good choice for a missionary in training.

My future is simple. I plan to go far away from my home to Cornell College and study to be a pediatrician. I want to be away from the burden of being stuck in the house with no freedom to do as I wish with my family hovering over me. But things don't always go according to plan. Stephanie states "I examined my life and everything I put on hold "because of the situation with my dad."" I was completely oblivious to the fact that there might be situations where my plans to attend Cornell might be avoided. Stephanie helped me understand that.
