This is sort of a lesser theme to this story but I think in the story they are 11 years of age. My sister is about 12 or so and this sounds exactly like her little gossip circle. Her and her little friends are eleven maybe twelve years old and their lives revolve around who is dating who and if he is going to take you to the Winter Social or whatever. In my opinion it is just ridiculous.
